Often, when people think of arts and crafts they think of a pastime for children. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Arts and crafts can be a great hobby for older ones as well. Partaking in this arts activity can allow a creative outlet, reduce stress and leave you with some great home décor or other useful items. The limits to what you can make are seemingly endless. Perhaps one of the best things about it though, is that arts and crafts can be done with purchased crafting items or even with items that are already in your home.
Arts And Crafts
Put a cork in it!
Cork is a cheap and versatile material to work with. If you enjoy the occasional glass of wine, start saving your corks. If you would rather though, bags of corks can be purchased for a minimal amount. One craft that can be made with corks is a trivet that will provide a safe place to set hot pots and dishes. To make a trivet, you need some corks and a container such as a small wooden box. Do not use plastic as it will melt when it comes into contact with heat. The next step is to use a hot glue gun and put a dot on one end of the cork, then glue the cork into the box. Repeat this step until it is filled. Alternatively, you may choose to place the corks in lengthwise....
Another great cork craft is corkboard picture frames which can be used to display children’s artwork and tests. To make this you will need a roll of cork board, which is cheap at most arts and crafts stores. You will also need a picture frame. The frame can be any style you choose, although old frames look particularly nice. The frame can be painted to match or accent your home’s existing décor. Next, hot glue the cork board to the back of the frame. After the project has dried, hang it on the wall and you have an easy place to use push pins for quick displaying of items. These boards are also good as memo boards.
Rocking out!
You may have seen the bags of polished rocks available at most dollar stores. These are great for a couple of arts and crafts that can really dress up a couple of items in the home. You may also choose to pick up the rocks yourself, this option is free. The best place to pick your own stones is at the beach as they are already perfectly smooth.
The first project for stones is a boot tray. Many homes have one of those plastic boot trays to catch water and mud that comes off the families footwear. Well, you can add some designer flair to your boot tray by lining the bottom with stones. No glue is required and your boots and shoes will be up higher out of the dirt and water that drips off them. Another great use for stones is to fill a wooden orange crate with them and place it near the garden hose. This provides a clean place to stand front foot rinsing before re-entering your home.
These are just a few of the great ideas that are available to crafters. For more ideas check out the internet and sites like Pinterest.
There are many places around the web that have fabulous collections of crafting ideas if you search for it. You may also choose to get in touch with your creative side by taking a painting or sculpting class at your local studio. All of these are great options of arts and crafts, whatever you choose, you will end up with a final result to be proud of and that will leave others wondering where you acquired such a marvellous item.
